Privacy Policy
Version 2026-11-05 · Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE]
The short version
- Your text stays on your device. The desktop app and browser extension plan and type your text locally. We don't receive it.
- We collect only what's needed to run your account: your email, your subscription status, and which devices are signed in.
- Card details go straight to our payment processor (Stripe). We never see your card number.
- Cloud mode (Pro+, optional) processes your text on our servers only while typing it into Google Docs you choose, and doesn't keep it afterwards.
- We don't sell your personal information or use it for advertising.
1. Who we are
[COMPANY LEGAL NAME] ("we", "us"), [ADDRESS], Ontario, Canada, is responsible for personal information collected through Jiyn. Our Privacy Officer is [NAME], reachable at privacy@jiyn.ai.
2. What we collect
| Information | Why | Where it's kept |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and sign-in details (e.g. Google or Apple account ID) | Create and secure your account, send receipts and important notices | Our account provider (Supabase) |
| Subscription details: plan, status, renewal and trial dates, Stripe customer ID | Provide what you paid for, and billing | Supabase and Stripe |
| Payment details (card, billing address) | Take payment and calculate tax | Stripe only. We never receive full card numbers. |
| Device identifiers and last sign-in time for each signed-in device | Enforce the 3-device limit and detect account misuse | Supabase |
| Records of your agreements: which version of the Terms and Privacy Policy you accepted, your age confirmation, acceptable-use and checkout consents, when, and from which app | Prove what was agreed, as consumer and contract law expect | Supabase (can't be edited or deleted, including by us) |
| Messages you send to support | Answer you | Our email provider |
| Basic technical logs (IP address, time, request type) when apps contact our servers | Security, abuse prevention and fixing problems | Our hosting providers, kept for up to 30 days |
3. What stays on your device
The text you type, your projects and schedules, typing history and stats, your typing profile (only key timings, never what you typed during the test) and your settings are stored on your computer or in your browser, not on our servers. Deleting the app or extension removes them.
4. Cloud mode and Google user data (Pro+, optional)
If you turn on Cloud mode, you connect your Google account and choose specific documents. Then:
-
We request Google's
drive.filepermission, which only lets us access files you pick or that Jiyn creates, not the rest of your Drive, Gmail or account. - We store an encrypted access token so sessions can run while your computer is off. Disconnecting Google or deleting your account deletes it.
- The text for a cloud project is stored encrypted on our servers until that project's sessions finish or you delete the project, then it's deleted. We don't read it except automatically to type it, or if you ask us to for support.
- Jiyn's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't use Google data for advertising, sell it, or use it to train AI models.
5. How we use information
Only to provide and secure the Service, process payments, communicate with you about your account, comply with law, and improve reliability. We send marketing emails only if you've agreed to them, and every one has an unsubscribe link (as required by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation).
6. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that process it for us under contract, and only as needed:
- Stripe: payments and tax
- Supabase: accounts and subscription records
- [EMAIL PROVIDER, e.g. Resend]: sign-in and account emails
- [HOSTING PROVIDER, e.g. Cloudflare/Vercel]: website and cloud services
- Google: only if you use Cloud mode, to type into your documents
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety, and to a buyer if our business is sold (they'd be bound by this policy). We don't sell or rent personal information.
7. Where it's stored
Our providers may store information in Canada, the United States or other countries, where local law may allow authorities to access it. We use providers with appropriate safeguards, including standard contractual clauses where required.
8. How long we keep it
- Account and subscription records: while your account is open, then deleted within 30 days of closing it, except billing records we must keep for tax law (generally up to 7 years).
- Agreement records: kept while your account is open and for up to 7 years after, in case of a legal claim. If you delete your account, they're kept without being linked to it.
- Technical logs: up to 30 days.
- Cloud mode text and Google tokens: as described in section 4.
9. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, download or delete your personal information, and withdraw consent (which may mean we can't provide some features). Depending on where you live (for example under Canada's PIPEDA, Quebec's Law 25, the EU/UK GDPR or California's CCPA/CPRA) you may have additional rights, including objecting to or restricting processing. Email privacy@jiyn.ai; we'll respond within 30 days. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your local data-protection authority.
We don't sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as defined by California law.
10. Security
We protect information with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls (each user can read only their own records), limited staff access, and regular security testing. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
11. Cookies
Our website uses only cookies needed for sign-in and security. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we add analytics, we'll update this policy and ask for consent where required.
12. Children
Jiyn isn't intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
13. Changes
We'll post updates here and change the effective date. For significant changes we'll notify you by email or in the app before they take effect.
